Environ Workshop B: Maximising and Assessing Research Impact

Environ Workshop ESAI

This workshop will show you five key methods for optimising the impact of your research including publishing in high impact journals (e.g. using ScimagoJR.com), ensuring your research is easily identifiable (e.g. using ORCID and Google Scholar Profiles), increasing the visibility of your research outputs (e.g. using Open Access), and promoting your research (e.g. using social media).

The workshop will also show you how to use bibliometrics and altmetrics to assess the impact of your research.

UL was awarded its Green Flag from An Taisce in November 2015. This workshop shared the experience involved in gaining the green flag and included an extensive campus tour to sites of interest.

Friday 27th November 2015 - Innovation in Water and Wastewater Technology

A half day conference on Innovation in water and wastewater technology with discounted cost of €50 for ESAI members and €100 for non-members to attend. The conference is co-hosted by the CIWEM (Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management). With a large number of leading Professionals from the Water Sectors in Ireland attending it presents an excellent networking opportunity.

Food Waste Workshop

Monday 8th June 2015 - Food Processing Waste: Maximising Hidden Resources for Sustainable Food Processing

Hosted by the UCD Institute of Food and Health in collaboration with the Environmental Sciences Association of Ireland this high level workshop was aim at contributing to policy development and identifying research needs in key areas relating to food and health. Experts in the area of food processing waste discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the food industry.

Monday Oct 14th 2013: Lifecycle Assessment Training Workshop

Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is a powerful tool to assess environmental impacts associated with a product's life from-cradle-to-grave from raw material extraction through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair and maintenance as well as disposal or recycling. This workshop provided an introduction to LCA for delegates who are new to systems process. Particular emphasis was placed on the benefits using LCA for SMEs, researchers and technology start-ups; with a number of presentations of real-life applications and benefits of LCA. The afternoon session focused on a fully worked example of how to use one particular tool for carrying out life cycle assessment.

Monday Sept 10th 2013: Freshwater Invasive Species

Targeting responsible agencies, third-level staff and postgraduates, NGOs, consultants and recreational bodies. This workshop will inform you how to (1) identify aquatic invasive species; (2) apply biosecurity protocols and (3) assess your potential role in aquatic invasive species management. The event will include presentations, a practical identification session and teamwork exercises.
